UAE authorities recently announced that tourists visiting Dubai on a visit visa will no longer be granted a grace period following the expiration of their visas.

Accordingly, they must depart before the specified end date on their visas, which corresponds to the duration of their stay. Individuals who do not adhere to this regulation will be subject to an overstay fine, which must be settled before they can obtain an exit permit.

UAE Overstay fine

Upon expiration of your UAE visa and the expiration of your grace period, you will be required to pay an overstay fine according to the number of days you spent in the UAE. AED 50 is the daily overstay fine. If your visa is cancelled, the UAE government will provide you with a grace period of six months until you leave the country or apply for another visa.

In addition to the overstay fine, visa overstayers must also obtain a Dubai/UAE out pass. Out passes are essentially exit permits that allow holders to leave the UAE for a fee of up to AED 300.

They offer services such as:

  • Provide your passport or Emirates ID
  • The officer will scan your details
  • They will inform you of any pending overstay fines
  • You can pay the fine at the spot and proceed with your exit

This is a convenient option for last-minute travelers who haven’t checked their fine online.

Step 4. Visit an Amer Centre (for Dubai residents)

If you reside in Dubai, you can also visit any Amer Centre to check and pay your overstay fines. Amer Centres are authorized to:

  • Access your ICP file
  • Tell you the exact number of overstay days
  • Process payment directly

They are available in various areas such as Deira, Karama, Al Barsha, and more.

An OUTPASS or Exit Permit is another option. You can leave the UAE without paying your overstay fines with this permit. An OUTPASS can be obtained by submitting an application to the immigration office.

Can I Get an Overstay Fine Waiver?

In exceptional or humanitarian cases, the ICP may offer overstay fine exemptions. For example:

  • Flight cancellations or airspace closures
  • Emergency medical conditions
  • Natural disasters or war zones

You’ll need to submit a petition letter, supporting documents, and possibly appear in person.

Exit Without Paying Full Fine

If you’re unable to pay the full fine amount, you may request an OUTPASS or Exit Permit. This is issued for those:

  • Unable to afford overstay penalties
  • Seeking voluntary departure
  • In financial or legal hardship

OUTPASS can be arranged at airport terminals, ICP centres, or via immigration authorities.

Avoiding Overstay in the Future

To avoid future fines:

  • Track your visa expiry date
  • Set reminders before your grace period ends
  • Use Metrash2 (for Qatar residents) or ICP Smart App to stay updated
  • Renew or exit before visa expiration
