Two New Salik Toll Gates to Open in Dubai – Including Al Khail Road. Dubai road network is set for a significant upgrade this November with the introduction of two new Salik toll gates. This expansion will bring the total number of toll gates in Dubai from eight to ten, reflecting the city’s ongoing commitment to enhancing traffic management and infrastructure.

The new Salik gates will be strategically located at two high-traffic areas:

  1. Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road: This new gate aims to ease congestion on Al Khail Road by 12 to 15 percent. It is expected to reduce traffic volume on Al Rabat Street by 10 to 16 percent. Additionally, it will help redirect traffic towards alternative routes such as the Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges, as well as Ras Al Khor Street.
  2. Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road: Positioned between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street, this gate is designed to decrease the volume of right-turn traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Meydan Street by 15 percent. It will also help in optimizing traffic flow on adjacent streets including Financial Centre, First Al Khail, and Al Asayel streets.

The introduction of these toll gates is part of a broader strategy to manage increasing traffic volumes and enhance the efficiency of Dubai’s road network.

Salik, which translates to “clear and moving” in Arabic, is Dubai’s automatic road toll collection system. Launched in 2007, the system currently operates through eight toll gates across the city. Motorists are charged Dhs4 for each gate they pass through, with the fee automatically deducted from their prepaid Salik account.

The addition of the new toll gates aligns with Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040, which emphasizes sustainable and efficient urban growth. Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, CEO of Salik, highlighted the importance of these new gates in supporting the Road and Transport Authority’s (RTA) goals. He stated, “The addition of new toll gates in two increasingly busy locations marks the latest milestone in our growth plan. Our partnership with RTA in launching these gates is another important step towards enhancing Dubai’s transport infrastructure with smart and sustainable mobility solutions.”

Future Directions

The expansion of the Salik system is a critical component of Dubai’s efforts to improve overall mobility and reduce traffic congestion. By strategically placing toll gates in high-traffic areas, Dubai aims to facilitate smoother travel and enhance the efficiency of its road network, thereby contributing to a more sustainable and well-managed urban environment.

Conclusion

The addition of two new Salik toll gates is a pivotal step in managing Dubai’s traffic flow and enhancing road efficiency. This expansion supports Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040, ensuring a smoother, more sustainable travel experience for all road users.
